How easy are they to care for?
Neon Tetra are some of the most popular aquarium fish available on the market, hardy and easy to care for these are ideal for all community fish tanks.

How large can they grow?

Where in the world are they from?
Neon Tetra Originate from the Putumayo river and streams of Peru South America. Almost all the Neon Tetras are now bred in Hong Kong and China, creating much more resilient strains than their wild caught counterparts. Neons have a healthy life span and can live for up to 10 years.

What is the ideal number to keep together?
Neon Tetras are a shoaling species, and are best kept in large numbers. For best results we recommend keeping at least 6 in a shoal - the more the happier they will be.

What water conditions do they require?
Ideally slightly acidic water conditions are provided between 6.5pH - 7pH however they will happily live in conditions ranging up to pH of 7.5 or higher. Temperatures should range between 24-26°C.

What should you feed them?
Neons should be fed a variety of flake, frozen, freeze dried and live foods for a varied diet. Being omnivores they will happily accept a wide range of foods.

How compatible are they with other fish?
Neon Tetra are peaceful community fish and are generally accepeted by a wide range of tank mates. Please see the compatability chart below for more information.

Can they be bred in captivity?
When sexing Neons males are slimmer and have a straighter blue line along the side. Provide water temperature of 25°C, with a very soft water pH 5 subdued low level lighting. Eggs are then laid over fine leaved plants and hatch within 24 hours. Newly hatched fry should be fed on live food infusoria or liquid food for approximately 10-12 days, they should then be moved onto newly hatched brine shrimp.
