How hard are they to keep?
A hardy shoaling fish, perfect for beginners to the tropical fish keeping hobby.

What is its maximum size?
4cm

Where are they from?
A widespred species from the upper rio Paraguai and the Matto grosso states. A readily farm bred specimen. It is recommended to avoid wild caught specimens as they can be tricky to acclimatise however tank bred specimens will happily adjust to a range of water conditions.

What is the ideal number to keep together?
Black Neon Tetras are a shoaling species, and are best kept in large numbers. For best results we recommend keeping at least 6 in a shoal - the more the happier they will be.

What water conditions do they require?
Ideally slightly acidic water conditions are provided between 6.5pH - 7pH however they will happily live in conditions ranging up to pH of 7.5 or higher. Temperatures should range between 24-26°C.

What should you feed them?
Black Neons should be fed a variety of flake, frozen, freeze dried and live foods for a varied diet. Being omnivores they will happily accept a wide range of foods.

How compatible are they with other fish?
Black Neon Tetra are peaceful community fish and are generally accepeted by a wide range of tank mates. Please see the compatability chart below for more information.

How do you breed them?
Like many Tetra they will scatter their eggs over fine leaved plants. Adult females will exhibit deeper bodies than the males as they start to carry eggs. They exhibit no parental care after spawning so eggs or fry should be removed when spawned.
