Where in the world are they from?
Jambi province, Sumatra and the Indonesian province of West Kalimantan, Borneo.

What is the ideal number to keep together?
Should be kept in a group of at least 8-10 specimens.

What water conditions do they require?
Temperature ranges of 23-28° Celsius and will accept 5.0 – 7.5 pH.

What should you feed them?
Small frozen foods such as bloodworm, Daphnia, and Artemia, alongside good quality, small dried flakes and granules.

How compatible are they with other fish?
Peaceful community fish.

Can they be bred in captivity?
This species utilises a different spawning method to most small cyprinids as the eggs are attached to the underside of broad plant leaves or other objects rather than scattered randomly. When the fish are in good condition they will spawn often and in a densely-planted, mature aquarium it is possible that small numbers of young may start to appear without human intervention.
