About the Pond Liner 10 x 1m HDPE 300gsm 40yr Warranty

AllPondSolutions is proud to offer our own branded range of pond liners. This is our heavy-duty HDPE liner at a true 300 grams per square metre, made from 100% virgin polyethylene with a 5% carbon black UV stabiliser.

At 10 x 1m this is a long, narrow sheet rather than a pond-shaped one, and it is the size people buy for streams, rills and watercourses. It also suits bog filters, header pools and planted marginal beds, and it is useful as a spare length for lining a waterfall run or repairing a section of an existing feature.

Because it is a single metre wide it comes off the extruder in one piece, with no welded seam anywhere along its length.

Not sure what size you need?

Before you order, it is worth two minutes with our pond liner size calculator. For a stream, allow enough width to carry the liner up both banks and to tuck it under the edging, and remember the run will need a little fall along its length.

Sizing the pump

A stream or waterfall needs a pump matched to the width of the channel and the height it has to lift the water. Our pond pump size calculator accounts for both, and our pond filter size recommender will size filtration for the pond the stream feeds. The instruction leaflet packed with every liner covers the same ground.

Why we quote the weight, not the thickness

Almost every pond liner in the UK is sold on a nominal thickness figure. Weight is the measure you can actually verify. Cut a square exactly 500mm x 500mm from the sheet, put it on kitchen scales, and it will read 75 grams. Nothing else in this category invites that test.

Solid and smooth, not woven

Many liners sold as HDPE are reinforced woven sheet. The weave shows as a grid pattern through clear water and cut edges can fray. Ours is solid extruded film, so you get a clean black finish and nothing for water to track along if the liner is ever pierced.

Working out the size yourself

Take the length of your run and add twice the depth, plus 60cm. Do the same for the width. The extra 60cm leaves a 30cm overlap all the way round to anchor the edges. Always round up to the next size, because you can trim a liner but you cannot add to one.

  • Liner size: 10 x 1m (10 metres squared)
  • Ideal for streams, rills, waterfall runs, bog filters and header pools
  • Single piece with no welded seam
  • 300 g/m2 solid smooth HDPE, approximately 0.32mm
  • 100% virgin high-density polyethylene resin
  • 5% carbon black UV stabiliser for long outdoor life
  • Flexible and straightforward to fit, and easy to trim once in position
  • Black finish, supplied folded in its own box
  • Free pond building advice sheet with every liner
  • 40 year guarantee against UV degradation*

*Guarantee covers UV degradation of the liner material and requires a non-woven underlay to be fitted beneath it. It does not cover punctures, tears or damage caused during installation, by animals or by ground movement. This guarantee is in addition to your statutory rights.

Frequently asked questions

What is this size best used for?

It is a long narrow sheet rather than a pond shape, so it suits streams, rills, waterfall runs, bog filters and header pools. It is also useful as a spare length for repairing a section of an existing feature.

How do I work out what size I need?

Take the length of your run and add twice the depth plus 60cm, then do the same for the width. For a stream, allow enough width to carry the liner up both banks and tuck it under the edging. Always round up, because you can trim a liner but you cannot add to one.

How can I check I have really got 300 g/m2?

Cut a square exactly 500mm by 500mm and put it on kitchen scales. That is a quarter of a square metre, so it should read 75 grams. We publish the weight rather than a nominal thickness precisely because it is the figure you can check yourself.

Is this a woven liner?

No. Many liners sold as HDPE are reinforced woven sheet, which shows a grid pattern through clear water and can fray at cut edges. Ours is solid extruded film with a smooth black finish.

Does it have any joins?

No. At one metre wide it is well under our 2.1m maximum extrusion width, so the full ten metre length is a single piece with no welded seam.

Do I need underlay under a stream?

Yes. Underlay is required for the guarantee to apply, and a stream bed is often the most stony ground in the whole project. Allow the same area plus about 10% for overlapping the pieces.

What does the 40 year guarantee cover?

It covers UV degradation of the liner material, provided it is installed over a non-woven underlay with all exposed edges covered by paving, turf or stone. It does not cover punctures, tears, or damage caused during installation, by animals or by ground movement. This guarantee is in addition to your statutory rights.

Is it safe for fish and plants?

Yes. It is made from virgin polyethylene with no plasticisers, and is suitable for garden ponds, wildlife pools, water features and streams.
