About the 2000EF+ / EFX+ Annual Service Kit
A full year of media plus the UV lamp, in one delivery, sized for your filter. Mechanical floss traps fine debris. Coarse foam does the heavy lifting and holds your bacteria colony. Activated carbon strips discolouration and odour. A fresh 9w UV lamp puts the steriliser back to full output. Run all four and the filter does what it was designed to do.
Important — do not change all your media on the same day
The foam and bio media in your filter hold the bacteria colony that keeps your water safe. It takes weeks to establish and minutes to throw away. Replace it all in one go and your tank effectively starts from scratch — ammonia and nitrite climb, and your fish are the ones that suffer.
Change it in stages:
- Swap no more than half your foam or bio media at a time
- Leave 2 to 4 weeks between changes so the new media can colonise
- Rinse anything you are keeping in tank water only — chlorine from the tap kills bacteria on contact
- Floss, carbon and the UV lamp are the exception. They do a mechanical, chemical or light-based job, not a biological one, so they can all be replaced in full

When to replace the lamp: every 6 months where the UV is doing a sterilising job, or every 12 months for green-water clarification. UV output falls away long before the lamp stops lighting up, so a lamp that still glows can be doing almost nothing.
Fits: 2000EF+ and EFX+ external canister filters, both of which run a 9w UV steriliser. The foams also fit the non-UV 2000EF and EFX — for those models order the 2000EF / EFX media pack instead.
