Fits all major manufacturers' 13w 2 pin units - measure your existing bulb end to end and check it against 185mm before ordering.

When to replace it

A UV bulb stops working long before it stops glowing. The visible light remains while the invisible UV-C output fades, so a lamp that still lights up can be doing nothing for your water.

  • Sterilisation: replace every 6 months (approximately 4,000 hours)
  • Pond or aquarium clarification: replace every 12 months (approximately 8,000 hours)

How often do UV bulbs need replacing?

Every 6 to 12 months. A UV lamp keeps lighting up long after its useful output has gone, so a bulb that looks fine may no longer be clearing your water at all. Most pond keepers fit a new one at the start of each season.

Will these bulbs fit my unit?

Match two things to the title above: the wattage, and the pin type. PLS bulbs are 2 pin and PLL bulbs are 4 pin, and they are not interchangeable. Both are usually printed on the old bulb itself or on the ballast label of your unit.

Why buy a multipack?

It works out cheaper per bulb than buying one at a time, it arrives in a single delivery, and it means the spare is already on the shelf when the water starts to green up rather than several days away.

Should I replace the quartz sleeve at the same time?

Ideally yes, once a year. The sleeve is the glass tube the UV light passes through, and once it scales or clouds it blocks the output of even a brand new bulb. Our UV Service Kits pair the correct bulb and sleeve for each model.

How should I handle a new bulb?

Isolate the power before opening the housing, and avoid touching the glass with bare fingers. Skin oils create hot spots that shorten the lamp's life. Never look directly at a lit UV lamp outside its housing.
