Scientific Name:
Carassius Auratus

Approximate purchase size:
5-6cm

How easy are they to care for?
Moderately hardy, the Pearlscales are quite vulnerable to pH changes and should not be exposed for long periods to a high acidity or alkalinity environment. They can also be easily damaged, as rough handling or contact with sharp objects in their environment can knock off their scales.

How large can they grow?
Up to 15cm.

Where in the world are they from?
They are one of the newer varieties of fancy goldfish. They have been developed largely in England where they first appeared in 1900.

What is the ideal number to keep together?
Will happily live with other slow-moving Goldfish varieties such as Ryukin Goldfish. Can be kept singly or in groups depending on tank / pond size.

What water conditions do they require?
Will accept temperatures from 18.3 to 22.2°C and a pH range between 6.0 - 8.0.

What should you feed them?
Live foods will be greatly accepted as well as frozen foods such as Blod worm, Artemia and Daphnia. Will happily accept Flake, Pellets and vegetable matter.

How compatible are they with other fish?
The Pearlscale will do best with similarly slow swimming tankmates.

Can they be bred in captivity?
Breeding can occur with the correct conditioning.
