How easy are they to care for?
Although large, it is relatively easy to care for Cichlid. It requires a large capacity tank and high filtration due to its size and mess that such fish can create.

Where in the world are they from?
Originally found in Lake Malawi. 

What is the ideal number to keep together?
It is best to keep a male with three or more females in a species tank. They can be kept in a (Mbuna/Malawi) cichlid community but will be territorial when spawning. 

What water conditions do they require?
Will accept temperatures from 22.8 to 27.8°C and a pH range between 7.2 - 8.8.

What should you feed them?
It’s a micro-predator by nature, so the bulk of the diet should be composed of live and frozen foods. It relishes bloodworm, brine shrimp, chopped earthworms, prawns etc. Dried foods are also taken, but should not be fed exclusively.

How compatible are they with other fish?
This is a peaceful cichlid, but not a fish for a community tank. Best kept with mild tempered Malawi cichlids and some catfish.

Can they be bred in captivity?
This species is not easy to breed in captivity. It is suggested to have one male with 3 - 6 females. Because they are difficult to mate, it's recommended to start with a group of eight to ten juveniles and let them grow up together. These fish reach sexual maturity at about 5 inches in length.
