How easy are they to care for?

They are easy to care for if they are fed well and the water is kept of a high quality. They need rocks, pebbles, and caves that replicate their natural environment.

How large can they grow?

Up to 11cm

Where in the world are they from?

Originally they are found in the Lake Tanganyika in Africa.

What is the ideal number to keep together?

In a pair or one male to 4 – 6 females

What water conditions do they require?

The water temperature should be between 25 - 26°C with a pH level of 8 – 9.2

What should you feed them?

They are omnivores and feed on flakes, shrimps, mosquito larvae, pellets and plankton.

How compatible are they with other fish?

They can be kept with similar sized Tanganyikan cichlid and should not be kept with other Julidochromis species.

Can they be bred in captivity?

They breed all year round but need caves that provide hiding places for fry.
