How easy are they to care for?
Easy. Viejita’s are best kept in a tank with plenty of plants. Open swimming spaces should also be provided.

How large can they grow?
4.6cm

Where in the world are they from?
Viejita Dwarf Cichlid comes from the Meta River and the Orinoco River in Colombia.

What is the ideal number to keep together?
They should be kept in a ratio of one male to 3-4 females as they are a harem fish.

What water conditions do they require?
Will accept temperatures from 23 to 30°C and a pH range between 5.5 - 6.5.

What should you feed them?
Will accept all foods offered but prefer live or frozen foods. Use a quality flake or small cichlid pellets but vary the diet by feeding them with blood worms, brine shrimp, white worms and mysis.

How compatible are they with other fish?
They do well with other species of a similar size that require the same water parameters.

Can they be bred in captivity?
Breeding is difficult.  One male can be kept with several females whilst breeding. The water should be extremely soft and acid.  Up to 100 eggs are laid and fertilised in a cave.
