Protein Skimmers

Protein Skimmers from All Pond Solutions

Protein skimmers are devices used mostly in saltwater aquariums to remove organic compounds from the water before they break down into nitrogenous waste. Protein skimming is the only form of aquarium filtration that physically removes organic compounds before they begin to decompose, lightening the load on your biological filter and improving the water's redox potential.

How does a marine protein skimmer actually work?
To put it as simply as possible, air bubbles inside the skimmer strips your fish tank water of undesirable waste that has built up inside your tank.

How the bubbles accomplish this is a neat trick that needs some explanation. Ever blow bubbles as a kid? Remember all the rainbow colors on them? Just as the soap clung to the giant bubbles you were creating so, too, does all the junk and other organic waste in your aquarium water. Those rainbow colors were the light reflecting off of the soap film...you could actually see it! In our skimmers, the bubbles are microscopic and the results can only be "seen" after they burst and deposit their organic waste films into the collection cup.

Our range of protein skimmers now come in three distinct varietys, the first type is an internal sump use protein skimmer which can be used in an aquarium fish tank sump, the second is a hang on protein skimmer that you can hang on the side of your tank or sump and the third is for placing in an external position from your aquarium with the water being piped to and from the aquarium.
